How does the generator create a harmonious palette? The tool works in HSL color space, where hue, saturation, and lightness are separate dimensions. Starting from a base hue, it picks related hues using color theory — a complementary color sits 180 degrees across the wheel, analogous colors sit 30 degrees apart, and triadic colors form a triangle with 120 degrees between each. It then varies saturation and lightness to produce a balanced mix of deep, mid, and light tones. The result is a scheme that looks intentional, not random.

Building a palette around a specific color is a common need. Maybe you have a brand color, a logo accent, or a hex code from a client.
